Sessions are $265: Unknotted delivers high-quality, personalized psychotherapy by combining expert care with ongoing assessment and progress tracking, ensuring every step supports lasting, meaningful change. While we do not currently accept insurance, many clients may be eligible for partial reimbursement.

Reimbursement Rates: Clients in Washington, DC, and New York can be reimbursed between 40-80% of the cost, depending on your insurance coverage. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to verify your out-of-network benefits.

How Unknotted Supports Reimbursement Process: After each session, we provide an invoice or a bundled superbill per month. These detailed receipts can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement. Our team ensures that the invoice or superbill reflects everything your insurance company requires for smooth processing.

  •  To find out if your insurance plan covers out-of-network mental health services, contact your insurance provider directly. Ask them the following questions:

    • Does my plan cover out-of-network mental health services?

    • What percentage of the session cost will be reimbursed?

    • What is my deductible, and how much of it has been met?

    • Are there any specific forms or documentation I need to submit?

  • If your insurance doesn’t cover out-of-network benefits, you can still receive services at Unknotted. You may choose to pay out-of-pocket, and we accept payment through credit cards, HSAs, or FSAs. If affordability is a concern, ask about our sliding scale fee options.

  • After your session, we’ll provide you with a superbill that includes all the necessary details for your insurance. You can submit it directly to your insurance company through their online portal or by mail. We recommend reaching out to your provider for specific instructions on how they prefer to receive superbills.

  • Reimbursement timelines vary depending on your insurance provider. Typically, it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a month after submitting your superbill. Contact your insurance company for a more specific estimate.

A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

How to Submit a Superbill
for Reimbursement

01. Receive Your Superbill
After your session, Unknotted will provide you with a detailed superbill. This document contains the necessary information for submitting to your insurance provider, including the type of service, date, and billing codes. You can work with your psychotherapist on ensuring the appropriate content is included in your document.

02. Contact Your Insurance Provider
Before submitting the superbill, it’s a good idea to contact your insurance company to confirm the process for submitting out-of-network claims and to ensure you have all required information. 

03. Submit Your Superbill
Follow your insurance provider’s submission process, which may involve uploading the superbill to their online portal, emailing, or mailing it. Be sure to follow their instructions carefully for the best results.

04. Track Your Claim
Keep a copy of the superbill and track your claim through your insurance provider’s website or customer service line to monitor its progress.

05. Receive Reimbursement
Once processed, your insurance provider will reimburse you directly based on your out-of-network benefits. The reimbursement amount will depend on your coverage plan.

  • Unknotted accepts the following payment methods:

    Credit/Debit Cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover

    Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). Please check with your provider to ensure these funds apply to your treatment.

  • We adhere to strict HIPAA guidelines to ensure your personal information and health records are kept confidential and secure. All billing and insurance-related communications, including superbills, are handled with the highest level of privacy protection.

  • Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

    Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice are subject to a fee equal to the session price.

  • We believe mental health care should be accessible to everyone. A limited number of sliding scale slots are available for clients in need. Please contact our team to inquire about sliding scale rates.

  • The cost for a 60-minute psychotherapy session at Unknotted is $265. This fee may be reimbursed partially through your insurance if you have out-of-network benefits.
